Yr 5/6 Benchball Competition - Monday 18th November

Eight Year 5 pupils took part in the Stevenage Sporting Futures Team Benchball competition at Barnwell Community Leisure Centre.

The team worked hard against some tough competition, scoring some well worked points and fantastic interceptions throughout the event. The team finished 8th and were awarded the School Games value award for 'Self-Belief' by the sports leaders from Barnwell who helped to officiate.

Well done to Ilaria, Scout, Ruby, Jessica, LH, Finley, Tommy and WR

Yr 5/6 Boys Football Match Vs Featherstone Wood - Friday 15th November

The football team played against Featherstone Wood Primary. It was an excellent game with a final score of 3-2 to Featherstone Wood who had an excellent defense. We were really proud of the team who played some great football.

Yr 5/6 Boys Football Match Vs Roebuck  - Friday 8th November

Well done to the Year 5/6 boys who played amazing football after school on Friday 8th November, winning 6-1 against Roebuck. Well done to all of the players, Leo and Brian who both scored a hat trick and Finley who was player of the match. Thank you for other members of football club and parents who came to give fantastic support to the players.  Thank you to Luke and Ben for coaching.

Yr 5/6 Boys Football Tournament - 7th October 2024

Well done to some of our Year 5/6 boys who represented Trotts Hill at a tournament. The boys have just started to play as a team and showed our PRIDE learning behaviours and made us feel proud. We look forward to watching their progress throughout the season.

Luke their coach said:

"We played some good teams and the boys represented the school really well and didn’t let their heads drop" Well done to Leo, Ruben, Jerome, Finley, Balveer, W, L, Bailey.

Year 6 Cross Country - 26th September 2024

A huge well done to our Year 6 Cross Country Team who ran a very wet and muddy 1 mile course at Fairlands Valley park. Brian narrowly missed out on a medal, coming in 4th, for the boys. It was a tough course, and they showed all of our PRIDE learning behaviours and more. A special well done to Hannah who had a fall but brushed herself down and carried on to complete the course despite limping over the finish line. Mrs O'Brien felt incredibly proud of them all today especially their support to each other and words of encouragement. They all gave 100%. What a team!

The team were Leo, Brian, Michael, Emelie, Hannah, Ella, Zohaib, Florance, Fawaz and Jerome

School Games Mark KS1

We are delighted to share that we have received the Gold mark for sport in Keystage 1. Well done to all involved in delivering our excellent sports provision and to Mrs O'Brien, the Sports Leaders and pupils. Please see the feedback.

"I am writing to congratulate you on achieving the Gold KS1 Sports Mark Award. This recognition is to award your dedication, hard work, and commitment to promoting physical education and sports within your school community.

Your efforts in fostering a positive and engaging environment for your students to develop their physical skills and embrace the values of teamwork and healthy competition are truly commendable. Achievements like these play a crucial role in shaping the well-being and holistic development of young learners.

Once again, congratulations on this achievement Trotts Hill"

Yr 5/6 Boys Football Match Vs Fairlands - Friday 17th May 2024

The Year 5/6 boys football team won their final game of the season 5-3 against Fairlands.

They have had a fantastic season and have finished runners up, only one point behind first place.

Well done to the boys who have played with passion and determination all season.

Thank you to Luke and Ben for coaching them

Yr 5/6 Hockey Tournament - Thursday 2nd May 2024

Year 5 and 6 attended a hockey tournament and finished 3rd we are really proud of their achievements. Trotts Hill statistics were; played 7, won 3, drew 2, lost 2, scored 11 goals and conceded 7 goals.

The scorers were Emelie, Layla and Dexter with 1 each; Finn with 3 and Luke 5.

Best attack: Luke who dribbled down the right-hand side and slap hit into the bottom left hand corner.

Best skill: Layla rollout to create space

Best defence: Goal line clearance from Arthur who sprinted back to dive and slide to knock the ball away from scoring.

We know from previous experience that the tournament is very competitive with lots of strong teams. However, we have been practising on playing a passing, attacking game and we really showed how much we have improved. We played some excellent hockey with lots of determination and perseverance. We used the wings and space well and when attacking the goal directly wasn't working, we switched tactics to pull the ball back or square. Everyone played really well and enjoyed themselves.

Year 5/6 Boys Football Match Vs The Leys - 22nd March 2024

The Year 5/6 football team travelled to The Leys to face the division 1 side in the second round of the cup. The boys arrived pumped and ready to go and were rewarded when we took the lead early on through Luke. A lapse in concentration allowed The Leys to equalise in a half which was dominated by the Trotts Hill side. The boys were reminded at half time to just relax and play our football and the goals would soon come and the boys went out raring to go. Two quick goals from Luke saw him get yet another hat-trick for the team before Leo finished the game off with a nice goal to see us win 4-1 and progress to the next round of the cup. MOTM goes to Luke for a brilliant performance up top! Thanks to Luke for coaching and well done to the team.

Year 5/6 Boys Football Match Vs St. Margaret Clitherow - Friday 19th March 2024

The Year 5/6 football team travelled to St Margaret Clitherow to take on their team in what was set to be a tough game. The boys started slow and found themselves 1-0 down, we rallied back to 1-1 through before a lapse of concentration saw us 2-1 down at halftime. A team talk to tell them to relax and play our football saw us come out the blocks flying and got an early goal to make it 2-2. St Mags then scored a screamer to make it 3-2 and at this point the boys switched into overdrive and turned the game on its head. 3 quick goals from the boys and some last ditch defending saw us finish the game as 5-3 winners. Goals from Luke F (3) and B (2) with B picking up MOTM. Well done boys!

Year 3/4 Rapid Fire Cricket Finals - 19th March 2024

Eight Year 3 and 4 students represented Stevenage in the County School Games Small Schools Rapid Fire Cricket final at Wodson Park Sports Centre.

Trotts Hill managed 2 wins and narrow defeat in their group games however, with 3 teams finishing on the same points just the number of 'gates' the team had scored separated the team. This saw Trotts Hill finish in 3rd place in the group and a playoff for 5th position.

The team battled hard but narrowly lost 46-42 to finish in a very credible 6th place overall.

Well done to all who took part, representing both Trotts Hill and Stevenage exceptionally well.

Year 3/4 Small Schools Rapid Fire Cricket - 6th March 2024

The Year 3 and 4s had a fantastic result at the Small Schools Rapid Fire Cricket event yesterday - winning the event overall and now having the opportunity to represent Stevenage in the Herts School Games County Finals!

Well done Alma, Charlotte, Daniel, Teddy, Ruby, Scout, Finley & LH.

Year 5/6 Girls Netball Match Vs St.Nicholas - Tuesday 5th March

The Trotts Hill Year 6 and 5 netball team played a very experienced Year 6 team from St Nicholas, Stevenage on Tuesday 5th March. All the girls played a brilliant game showing their growth in the sport. Many of the skills they had learnt in training came into play defending the attacking team. Although there were 12 goals conceded, this was a real achievement considering the experience of the other team. Myah received girl of the match from both the opponent and coach for her huge improvement in confidence by showing determination in her interception and defending skills. Emelie was the team captain for the match. We are very proud of the girls for representing the school so well. Thank you to Mrs Taylor for coaching them.

Year 5/6 Sports Hall Athletics - 15th February 2024

Well done to our team of Year 5 and 6's who took part in the Sports Hall Athletics at Barnwell. The boys team came 1st in the small schools heat and the girls came 2nd which is an amazing achievement. The overall scores, for all Stevenage schools taking part, puts Trotts Hill boys in 5th and girls in 12th. We're very proud of how they conducted themselves, winning the School Games Value award for Respect in the process.

Yr 5/6 Boys Football Match Vs Giles - Friday 1st February 2024

The boys headed over the road to face local school Giles in our latest Year 5+6 football match. With illnesses we could only take 7 boys to play but the boys played incredibly well. Facing a tough Giles team the boys had to dig in deep and battle for each other on what seemed like the worlds biggest 7 a side pitch! Going into half time 0-0, I encouraged the boys to be a bit braver with the ball and it paid off! A corner came in and a bit of pinball happened in the box before Dexter got the final touch to put us 1-0 up. We got a second goal very soon after with Brian taking shot from about 25 yards out and everyone stood and watched as the ball sailed into the top corner! Some solid defending from the boys in the final minutes saw us run out 2-0 winners! MOTM to Finn for a real team player performance.

We have since started two more clubs within the school, a Year 3 + 4 mixed football club and a Year 3,4 + 5 mixed football club too. Both of these clubs have had really good uptake and are both at capacity numbers and all children attending are well behaved and eager to learn new things. One thing that I particularly enjoy is the number of girls we have across both groups and how they are showing that football can be enjoyed by everyone"

Active 30/30

We continue to promote the active minutes within school by ensuring we are including movement breaks, outdoor and active learning within our curriculum subjects. This is in addition to the timetabled PE sessions. This was a big focus for us last academic year, where we were recognised for this and awarded the platinum award for our school.

Trotts Hill achieve prestigious Platinum award 2023

Over the summer holidays, we received the exciting news that we are now a PLATINUM  sports school. Schools only achieve the platinum award if they have achieved Gold for the last 5 years and can show outstanding sports provision. This is an incredible achievement and we are very proud. Thank you to the PE team, staff, children and parents who support out sports provision.

Please see the feedback from Stevenage Sporting Futures:

“Well done Trotts Hill, in particular the PE team - you have achieved the Platinum School Games Mark. Not only has it been wonderful to see Trotts Hill at a range of targeted events across the academic year, but it is also pleasing to read the curricular and extracurricular offering your children have access to within school. You effectively share the messaging of PE and school sport with key stakeholders and, most importantly, consult your young people to influence your PE offer. Upon reading your platinum case study, I fully support your case study and applaud you for your efforts in developing and maintaining 60 active minutes across your school. The new project, OPAL, has transformed your lunchtime offering and ensured that all children have access to a form of physical activity within school that many do not have access to outside of school. This has been a whole school approach with every child and member of staff being on board, including staff training opportunities. You are rightfully proud of this programme and the impact it has had on your school community. Well done, you should be very proud of all your efforts. The children in your school are incredibly lucky to have the school sport and physical education offering they do. As a partnership, we are so thankful to have engaged schools such as yourselves”
