Healthy Lunches & School Milk
"A healthy outside starts from the inside" - Robert Urich
Please note the cost of school meals is £3.45 per day for KS2 children (Years 3-6) with a choice of four meals.
All Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are entitled to free school meals and are encouraged to take advantage of this entitlement. School meals are tasty, healthy and nutritious and children are supported and encouraged to try new foods alongside their friends.
Free School Meals
We would like to remind parents who are on universal credit that you may be eligible for free school meals. Your child may also be eligible for pupil premium funding. This money comes directly to the school and is used effectively to support learning and development. You can apply by telephone on 0300 123 4048 or online via:
Packed Lunches
If you choose to provide your child with a packed lunch it must be a healthy, balanced meal and it must include fruit and / or vegetables. For ideas for healthy packed lunches go to:
Nut Free School
We aim to be a Nut-Free school. We do not allow nuts or nut products in school lunch boxes.
Our aim is to protect children who have allergies to nuts and support our pupils to be allergy aware.
Our “Nut-Free guidance” means that the following items should not be brought into school:
- Packs of nuts
- Peanut butter or Nutella sandwiches
- Chocolate, sweets, Fruit and cereal bars that contain nuts
- Cakes made with nuts
- Any home cooked meals for packed lunches that are made with nuts
We do not use nuts in any of our food prepared on site at our school. Our suppliers provide us with nut-free products. However, we cannot guarantee that all food is free from nut traces.
What types of food are nuts?
- Almonds
- Cashew nuts
- Hazelnut
- Pistachio
- Walnuts
- Brazil nuts
- Nut oils
- Peanuts
Parents and carers must notify staff if their child has any known or suspected allergy to nuts and provide all medical and necessary information.
The school requests that parents and carers observe the nut-free guidance and therefore do not include nuts, or any traces of nuts, in packed lunches. All children are regularly reminded about the good hygiene practice of washing hands before and after eating which helps to reduce the risk of secondary contamination. Likewise, children are reminded and carefully supervised to eliminate the act of food sharing with their friends.
Thank you for your help in making our school safe for all children.

Milk
Currently children under the age of 5 receive free milk at school, funded by the UK Government’s Nursery Milk Scheme.
When your child turns 5, milk continues to be available at a subsidised cost of 22p per day, via our school milk supplier, Cool Milk.
Drinking a portion of milk at mid-morning break offers protein, calcium and other vital nutrients, important for children’s growth and development. It can also be a sensible way to bridge the gap between breakfast and lunch.
If your child is currently under 5
Your child is entitled to free milk. Please register at www.coolmilk.com for your child to receive their milk. You will be emailed by Cool Milk 4 weeks prior to their 5th birthday to see if you wish to continue or cancel the supply.
If your child is aged 5 or over
Visit www.coolmilk.com at least 10 days before your child’s 5th birthday and select the ‘Register your child for milk here’ option on the main home page.
Or ask school for a registration form to complete. After registration, you may then make a pre-payment via your online account for the remaining half term, term or academic year. You can also simply choose your own specified amount, should you wish to do so.
Alternatively, you can complete and return a registration form to the address provided. Your child will then be registered and a pre-payment invoice will be sent out to you either via post or email so that payment can be made. Please ask the school office for a form if you require one. If your child is currently over the age of 5 and entitled to statutory free school meals, there is no need to register. Simply speak to the school office for further information.
All information handled by Cool Milk is processed in accordance with current Data Protection Legislation.
